There are moments when protecting yourself becomes instinctive. Not shutting the world out completely, but creating distance between what’s happening externally and what’s being carried internally.

Protection explores that balance between vulnerability and self-preservation. The fragmented layers and sharp contrasts suggest emotional noise pushing in from different directions, while the lowered gaze creates a quieter sense of reflection and withdrawal.

Despite the tension within the composition, the painting still holds warmth and softness beneath the surface. Bright colour cuts through the darker forms, hinting at resilience rather than defeat… it’s about the ways we protect ourselves emotionally — sometimes consciously, sometimes without even realising we’re doing it.
